Backcountry skiing and snowboarding
There are many slopes that are to be enjoyed for backgrountry ski or snowboard. The Cuchara Mountain Resort - has been closed in 2001 - offers some great opportunities, easy to hike in 1 to 2 hours for a decent hiker. You should come equiped with your own skis, skins, poles; or splitboard with skins and poles; or snow shoes. Park on the resort car park and then it's all BLM / National Forest Land. Nordic skiing / Cross country Ski
Near Uptop (Old La Veta Pass), there is a Nordic Skiing trail. Some of the road that are unplowed make good croos country tracks as well when the snow is sufficient. Don't expect well groomed, crowded runs. Here's it's you, the mountain and the Nature. We haven't drawn the tracks on our maps because we don't have suffcient experience and feedback on those ski trails. Let us know if you've found
